voice recorder problem solved
17/09/2018 10:28Thank you for praying for wisdom about sorting the problem we've had with our recordings. I believe that the Lord helped me to do that this morning. It was a pretty simple solution of downloading a new app. Lord willing, the quality of our sermon audio will now be good as it should be recording directly through the mic to my phone.
In just a few minutes we are leaving to go visit the venue for the wedding. Please pray that God will give us wisdom how to make best use of that facility. Thank you for your prayers!
Staying busy but getting there....
16/09/2018 14:14After a very busy summer we are getting caught up a bit on life. We have a wedding coming next month (2:00 PM, 6 October) and Katie hosted a wedding shower this Past Friday. It was well attended and a blessing to Rebekah and the other ladies. I enjoyed doing an hour and a half discipleship lesson wih the man who got saved last week. Please pray for him as they have not yet come to church. This week the Lord also helped us get the wedding program planned.
God gave us a good Sunday morning. We had a man join us for the morning service who has just recently trusted Christ. He is looking for a good church. It was a blessing to have him with us. I preached this morning a simple message, You Need to Pray from Luke 22, and Acts 1-2. There are some compelling reasons to pray found in those chapters. The simple truth is that without prayer we can not be or do what God wants us to be or do.
This next Sunday we may be having a baptismal service and would appreciate your prayers for that event. Thank you for your prayers which avail much!
Sorry about the "radio silence"
10/09/2018 11:06Thank you for praying without consistent updates to make you aware of what the Lord was doing in our meetings. We recorded most of the services from our meetings and I want to make the available below. God gave us some special services and sweet prayer times. In particular the prayer time following our final service and the prayer time following the pastor's fellowship were a special blessing.
Every message preached by Brother John hit the target of our hearts just where we needed it. We very much enjoyed having him at our church for the third time and also enjoyed his fellowship with our family. My father grew up in Dr. Van Gelderen Sr.'s church (John's father) in Colorado. After my dad's car accident where he lost his wife and 3 children, he went on as an assistant at Marquette in Chicago with Dr. Van Sr. They hired my mom as a teacher and it took my parents three months to get married after they first met. We love the Van Gelderen's and praise the Lord for how He has used their family.
God is good. Thank you for your part in accessing His blessing upon these meetings. Please pray that the work God has done would continue in the days ahead. The newly saved man's family did not come to the meetings. Please pray as we follow up this week.

Joy in the presence of the angels.... (Luke 15:10)
04/09/2018 12:07A man in my church, Tommy, and myself had the joy today of leading a man to Christ. We've been praying for this man and his family for a few months. Please pray for God to give him the courage to come to church and to follow the Lord in believer's baptism. I shared with him that we would likely be having a baptismal service not this Sunday but the next. We went to his home to encourage him to come out the the evangelistic meetings. He said that he would see us on Sunday and I hope and pray that we will.
Praying for revival....
02/09/2018 13:18The Lord gave us a good morning and most of our regular folks were in attendance. We had a young girl with us today who has only ever visited on a Thursday night. It was good to have her with us on a Sunday.
I preached this morning a message which I have preached at our church before. In fact I've preached it twice before. God put it on my heart to preach it again and I did. It is a message on revival from Isaiah 41 on Seeking Revival. It is very close in Scripture to the promise claimed by those who sought the Lord previous to the awakening on the Isle of Lewis in the 1950's. It is the same promise though the specific verses they claimed are three chapters later. Both passage speak about God's Spirit as watered poured out by God.
Will you please pray with us for revival? This alone will meet the need of our community. We can faithfully preach, pray, evangelize.... But, I feel the truth of the song which says, "All is vain unless the Spirit of the Holy One comes down. Brethren pray and Holy Manna shall be showered all around." We have a great platform this week for God to do a great work and we are looking to Him to do it. We have evangelistic meetings with Evangelist John Van Gelderen this Thursday - Sunday. Additionally we are hosting a fellowship meeting on Saturday morning. Thanks for praying with us as we seek the Lord this week.
A dog ate my F. D. T.
28/08/2018 12:19For those who have been around our webpage for a while, you may remember my F. D. T. is my Flyer Distribution Tool. In Laymen's terms it is known commonly as a small plastic handled "cheese board." But to the the initiated, an F. D. T. We use these to protect us from D. O. G's or dogs. D. O. G.'s are the enemy of the flyer distributor as they lurk on the other side of people's mail slots. You may not be aware that the most dangerous type of D. O. G. are the silent ones. Their silence betrays their sinister character and secret desire to catch an unsuspecting flyer distributor. Sadly, I let my guard down today as I listened to a great sermon on hope. You would laugh if you saw the size of the D. O. G. who stole my paddle. He was about the size of my paddle. I humbly knocked with a desire to retrieve my weapon. However, the owner was not home and will probably not be suprised to see that Jr. has as a new play toy. It has probably happened before. I actually think this dog may have taken another one from me in the past.
In all seriousness, I almost forgot the above incident as later God gave me a great opportunity to share the Gospel with a woman. I had not met her before but I do know her husband. I've prayed for him many times in the past as we would often see each other walking. Please pray that God will bless the seed sown through the mail slots as well as through this divine appointment.
Thank you for your prayers.
God has given us another visitor....
26/08/2018 13:13God has given us a lot of visitors lately. Our visitor today is a young mother from Ireland. She was here today visiting her inlaws in Edinburgh. It was a joy to have her with us this morning.
The children were faithful to come to church this morning. We had seven children there who came on their own or with their siblings. Praise the Lord. My wife takes our van around to collect them for church.
I preached this morning on Hell from Revelation 20:10-15, "What It Takes to Go To Hell." Nobody who really understands what Hell is like would want to go there. Before I preached a heavy message on Hell, I enjoyed singing a song about Heaven. It's a good old song. If you'd like to listen in I included it at the beginning of the sermon audio this morning.
Thank you for praying for our ministry.
Freedom of the press....
23/08/2018 11:46I am very thankful for the privilige God has given me of putting articles into our local county newspaper. I'm given this opportunity once or twice a year. My most recent article came out today. I'm limited to 350 words and I used all of them. God gave wisdom and the article printed this week was a clear presentation of the Gospel. My title was, "Can I be saved?" The title they printed was, "You must call upon the name of the Lord and be saved" (wow!) Praise the Lord! Please pray that God will use this article to awaken hearts and bring sheep into His fold.
Scottish weather is back....
19/08/2018 13:11All summer long we told Holly (intern) that our weather was abnormally good. Ever since she left we have had normal Scottish weather. The remnants of a tropical storm went through here last night and it has been a misty morning. We enjoyed good attendance today despite some being away on holidays. Part of that attendance was having guests with us who are on holiday. We did have one Christian lady visit this morning who is looking for a church. So, that was a special blessing.
I preached this morning a message about the stewardship of God's vineyard from Luke 20:9-19, Entrusted with Eternity. For some reason, unknown to me, the equipment decided to record properly. *Thank you for praying... It may be a temporary praise, but I am thankful to have good audio today.
We also enjoyed having Miss Amanda Baker with us. Amanda is a BWM missioanry in England. She came up on Friday with Courtney Jones and her daughter, Lyndsey. (The Jones family are missionaries in Thailand with BWM.) Lyndsey is getting to go on a senior trip with her mom to some different countries. We were thankful to have been a part of their itenerary.
Please pray for the salvation of a man I spoke with this past week. There are some very neat ways God is working in His life and I anticipate hearing that he has gotten saved. I had the joy of sharing the Gospel with him for an hour this past week. I've known him for a couple years and have spoken with him before.
Outreach in Loanhead
14/08/2018 11:52Tommy (who attends our church) helped me today as we put out flyers in Loanhead. We have a men's prayer time on Tuesday mornings and Tommy stayed on to help with some outreach. God gave us a really fun and refreshing divine appointment with a believer. This older woman got saved 6 years ago. She gave me a hug right after meeting me as she said, "I'm a Baptist." It was a joy to hear how God brought her to himself. Please pray that God will bless her testimony and help her to reach her area of Loanhead.
