divine appointments

17/02/2021 11:19

I can't wait until I can get into Edinburgh on a nice sunny day and have great evangelistic opportunities. However, for a pretty cold day, God gave me several divine appointments.

One man I met works at the static caravan site. (Mobile homes) I've witnessed to some of the other employees over the years ad he said, "Oh, ______ told me about you." He didn't say it in a bad way - so I took it in a good way. I first witnessed to the other man 9 years ago or so. This man is an atheist, but said, "Don't get me wrong. I still pray at times." It turns out his sister in law, Paula (32) has just been put into an induced coma. She gave birth two days ago and got a bad infection. Will you please pray for her healing? I hope to hear an update from him. I asked to pray for her and we took off our hats and asked God's healing for her.

The second man was an older gentleman who attends the Church of Scotland but doesn't know if he is going to Heaven. I went through a summary of the Gospel with Him. Hopefully his sister (used to be a teacher) can use the QR code and they can watch some of The Journey.

The third opportunity was with Jimmy. I've witnessed to him several times over the years. He reminds me of my grandpa Shore. Jimmy does not have any family and is probably in his mid 80's. I gave him a John and Romans. Please pray for his salvation.

I spoke also very briefly with a man who said he was agnostic.

God's good to give these opportunities and I praise Him for opening these doors in answer to prayer. Thank you for praying for divine appointments.

Roslin Completed

16/02/2021 13:36

The Lord helped me finish up the village of Roslin as I got out doing flyers today and yesterday. Both days were excellent weather. It's a blessing to put out flyers when the weather is more agreeable. I didn't have any divine appointments, but I'm thankful that the Gospel has gone into a lot of homes. Please pray for people to take advantage of the opportunity God has extended to them of finding His Son.

God blessed our men's prayer time today. It's a blessing to seek the Lord together.  The men want to continue these prayer times until the government eases the lockdown. There is nothing definite on the table yet although the covid numbers are quickly falling. Thanks for praying for God's blessing on these prayer times.

Good Sunday and better weather week

15/02/2021 08:37

The weather today is finally conducive to outreach. We got about 15 inches of snow last week. That is a lot for Scotland. In ten years we have only seen snow events on that scale three times. I'm looking forward to geting out and am hopeful of some divine appointments this week.

God did give me another divine appointment last week at the sledging hill. I had a good chat with a man who lives about a mile from our normal (pre-pandemic) church location. Please pray that he will get on The Journey.

We enjoyed a good day yesterday. One of our visitors from Holiday Bible Club joined our Sunday School last night. Please pray that God will do a great work in her life. He grannie and aunt's family attend our church.

I enjoyed preaching a Valentine's Message from 1 Corinthians 13 - Love, Love and Love. God has a high standard for love which He expects us to meet with His help. Please pray that our ministry would be filled with the love of God.

Thank you for your prayers. I often pray for those who pray for us. We know that we owe you much for accessing God's grace for our family and ministry.

Awesome divine appointment.....

09/02/2021 19:55

God just really encouraged my heart by giving me an opportunity to speak with a college age young man for about an hour. We got almost a foot of snow in the last 24 hours and went with the kids over sledging (sledding). We have an awesome hill at the golf course by our home. Three college students were also there and one of them kindly entered into a very fun conversation about God. Please pray for these young people to come to faith in God and His Word. I prayed with them at the end of our chat and asked God to open their eyes to who He is.

God gave us a great start to our holiday Bible club. A girl who used to attend our church, but who now lives in Portugal, joined us. We also had a first time visitor. Your prayers are appreciated as this event runs for two more days.

God also blessed us with a good missionary men's prayer time today. God has really knit our hearts together through these prayer times. Please pray that God will wonderfully use these time to forward His work in Scotland.

(One of the puppets on Zoom today.)

HBC starts tomorrow....

08/02/2021 10:53

Katie has been working hard to get ready for a 3 day Zoom Holiday Bible Club. The kids are excited and looking forward to it. I think our adults are excited as well as some get to participate with puppets. Please pray for the power of God to open the hearts of the children to His truth.

God gave us a good Sunday. We still don't know when the lockdown will end and churches will be allowed to meet in person. I preached the second part of my message from last Sunday on Soul Happiness from Psalm 32.

We are in a cold snap this week as East winds are blowing from the continent. The cold air is coming down out of Siberia. (It's not cold like the Northern US.) Those winds collect moisture over the North Sea and could bring snowfall. So far, we just have a dusting of snow.

visitor

04/02/2021 19:27

We had a zoom visitor tonight. Bruce and I met about a year and a half ago in Edinburgh. He is a believer and was doing some street evangelism. He phoned me today and asked if we were on zoom and joined us tonight. (It was encouraging to see someone visit the church during the lockdown. We have been praying for visitors.)

On Thursdays we are studying Hebrews. Tonight we looked at Hebrews 8, the deficiencies of the Old Covenant and the excellencies of the New Covenant. There was a good spirit and pretty good attendance. Thank you for praying.

Reading material....

02/02/2021 10:13

Please pray for us to redeem the time during lockdown. We've done several lockdown projects around the house. Most of those are finished. I've enjoyed doing some extra reading. I've recently read Andrew Murray's biography, "Andrew Murray and His Message." I'm currently reading the diary and journal of David Brainard. Wow, they both had an incredible dedication to the will of God and great thirst for God. They also both hazarded their lives for the cause of Christ.

Outreach has not been exciting except for the weather. Last week I put out literature on 3 days. Last Tuesday I could have worn ice skates. This morning it was snowing. Thankfully, the snow melted this past week and the walks are clear. (It is supposed to snow today and tomorrow, so it will remain to be seen if they stay clear.)

Obviously, winter weather and lockdown are not ideal for one on one opportunities to share the Gospel. However, please pray for God to give us divine appointments.

Katie is excited to be planning a 3 day Zoom Holiday Bible Club for the school break next week. (Although schools are currently closed due to lockdown, parents are expected to be schooling their children at home. Next week there is a scheduled school break.) Please pray God's work in the hearts of the children as they attend on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon. Please pray as well for our church family as they get involved in leading crafts and puppet ministry.

Line upon line....

31/01/2021 19:31

I'm very thankful for our church family. We have such a good spirit in our times together. Please pray for God's continued blessing in that regard as it is very refreshing.

Our attendance was good today. Everyone was faithful to the services. We did a first today as we had communion on zoom. We already preach, pray, give, and sing online. The covid communion cups made it possible for us to also have the Lord's table. We're thankful, but can not wait until we can meet together. It was a blessing to see one another as we handed off the communion cups.

My wife is busy preparing a 3 day online HBC (Hoiday Bible Club) for the school break the week of 8 February. She even bought a worm puppet that she is super excited about! :) Please pray that God will bless as we seek to do more during a time where it would be easy to do less.

I enjoyed preaching 2/3's of my message this evening. I am preaching on Psalm 32, The Happiness of Holiness.  Thank you for praying for our ministry.

Bilston completed

25/01/2021 10:54

The Lord helped me get out and finish the last of the village of Bilston this morning. Please pray that people will look up the journey videos on our church webpage or our facebook page and be impacted by the Gospel. It was very cold and icy this morning and I only had one brief conversation. My fingers were numb and perhaps my brain was as well as I said, "I am a Baptist Church (instead of Baptist minister.)" I don't think the man noticed. (Whew!)

Tomorrow we have a Scottish missionary prayer time at 11 and we would appreciate your prayers. God's blessed me with some good friends who are faithful to join these prayer times. I look forward to what God is going to do tomorrow in that time.

Snow, snow and snow still on the ground.

24/01/2021 19:35

This week we actually gave our kids a snow day and watched the inauguration. We were blessed with heavy snow on two nights this week and so my outreach was limited by inclement weather.

God gave us a good Sunday. This morning I really enjoyed sharing with our church the "time principle" and the "put off/ put on" principle from the end of Romans 13. This evening I preached a message on Epaphras. This message has impacted me with the need church plants have for intercessory prayer. I entitled the message, "Essential Intercession." I encourage you to listen to it, not because I preached it. But, because this message is vital to the success of all church plants (and established ones.)

God put it on my heart after I again scheduled weekly zoom prayer times with missionary men in Scotland. Please pray for these prayer times beginning this Tuesday at 11 AM. (6AM EST) I'm going to host them until the end of this lockdown.

Thank you for praying for us and our ministry. God is working and we know that it is in answer to your prayers.
