Sunny Loanhead....

27/09/2015 12:42

Autumn is a lovely time of year in Scotland. It seems we get a lot more sunshine this time of year. We are enjoying a gorgeous sunny day today.

Mac is doing a bit better in church and life. :) Thanks for praying. We'd appreciate your continued prayers for him but I wanted to give you that update.

We had a good morning. I preached this morning on "Can't Keep It or Can't Lose It" from Matthew 6:19-34. I am finding the Sermon on the Mount to be of great personal benefit as I'm preparing and preaching through it.

Yesterday Parker was my soul winning partner. God gave us one good conversation. It's not an easy day to do soul winning. Not only are people steeped in unbelief, they are steeped in disinterest. They don't every think about eternity or contemplate the fact that they "could" be wrong. Please pray for God to awaken hearts.

Thanks for praying for us. God gave us an encouraging morning.

Into Edinburgh....

24/09/2015 13:35

I had a good follow up witnessing opportunity this morning with a friend of mine. Please pray that God will do a good work in his heart.

Afterwards, I dropped the car off on the other side of Edinburgh and handed out flyers near Princess St. God gave me several great opportunities to share Christ.

H..... is 23 and hoping not to go to jail. She has been there before but is seeking to change her ways. I spoke with her and an older man who has had a rough life. It was a good chat.

D..... is probably late 20. He would be agnostic. I had a good opportunity to speak to him about creation and left his with a copy of John and Romans. He was very engaged in our conversation.

I was also looking for a violin for my daughter and stopped into a music shop. The Lord gave me a good witnessing opportunity with the man who works there as no one else was in the shop. I'm pretty certain that I have witnessed to him in the past. He says that he is an atheist. But, when questioned about it, he admitted that it is just because he doesn't know anything that would convince him that there is a God. I enjoyed talking with him and hope something that was said will bring conviction to his heart.

Thank you for praying for open doors for the Gospel.

Flyers and door to door.

22/09/2015 14:49

Missionary Don Dillman and I got together today in his area. The Lord gave a lovely morning to get out. We put out flyers and then did door to door. The Lord gave us a few good opportunities to speak with people about the Lord. Thanks for praying for open doors for witnessing. God's hand was evident in the opportunities that He gave. Please pray that God would bless His Word and build the church in Clermiston, Edinburgh.

A Refreshing Sunday

20/09/2015 20:51

The Lord gave us a refreshing day today. We had good attendance and a good spirit. A man who has visited before was back with us Thursday and today. Please pray that we can be a blessing to him. It was also good to have my brother-in-law's family with us. I preached this morning on, "The KIND that God rewards from Matthew 5:43-6:18. Jesus sets a high standard for His rewards. I preached specifically on love, giving, fasting and prayer. I was unable to record the message this morning.

The kids sang this morning and did a wonderful job. It's going to be exciting having them sing as they get older. They did two parts today. It was also good to have 3 neighbor kids with us this evening. Thanks for praying for our day.

More flyers....

17/09/2015 10:07

It was fun to get out with Don Dillman yesterday. We were able to put out a lot of flyers through two different neighborhoods. We had one short opportunity to speak with a man from Northern Ireland. For some reason, divine appointments seem more difficult to come by. I did have one this morning and another one on Monday morning. Please pray for Brian and Ian. Thanks for praying.

Whether with many or with them who have no power.

15/09/2015 11:47

2 Chronicles 14:11  And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.

This verse was a blessing in my Bible reading Sunday night. Praise God for His glorious NAME.

I put flyers out this morning through a nearby village and finished a neighborhood. Tomorrow a fellow missionary, Don Dillman, is going to help me with some evangelism. Please pray that God will bless our efforts and give us open doors. Thanks for your prayers.

The sermon on the mount continued....

13/09/2015 12:39

We are making progress in our study of the sermon on the mount. I preached this morning a message entitled, "It Hath Been Said," from Matthew 5:27-32. Interestingly every time man thought they knew the law, Jesus said, "But I say unto you." We dealt with the subjects of adultery, divorce, integrity and vengeance. God gave us a good service.

One of our biggest prayer requests right now is grace for Mac. He is an energetic/vocal one year old. All of you mothers can imagine trying to teach with a one year old. In most church situations you would have a nursery for a toddler. We don't have that capability yet. Please keep praying. God is able to help one year olds and He can give grace to minister with a one year old. He can also brings us those who are able to minister as nursery workers or Sunday school teachers. We need all of the above. :)

I enjoyed teaching my class with the older teens and adults. We are studying I Corinthians and have made it to chapter 13. Our topic this morning was charity.

Pastor's Fellowship

12/09/2015 12:47

It's been an interesting week. I enjoyed going up to a pastor's fellowship in Perth on Thursday. (Katie and the kids were unable to go due to a Dr.'s appointment.) We were challenged with two good messages. The first was on making our hearts a Bethel, the house of God. The second was on having victory over the flesh. Both preachers were a blessing.

It has been a week of helps. I've done things like help move a huge aquarium and a ton of coal. (Literally) Those were two separate things in case you are trying to picture a fish tank full of coal. Many homes here burn coal in the winter time. I helped Alec fill a coal bin. We also helped Katie's brother's family move some things out of their home as they get ready to eventually head back to the States. They are going to spend a bit of time with us before they return to the US.

Logan and I have just returned from door to door. The Lord gave us one really good 25 minute chat and a couple other short opportunities to talk with folks in our community. Thanks for praying for those open doors. Please pray that God will bless the seed that was sown.

summer is here!

08/09/2015 14:46

We are into some lovely weather. If I am repeating myself it is because we had a colder and wetter summer than usual. And for Scotland, that is saying something.

I enjoyed putting out flyers yesterday afternoon. I didn't speak with anyone while I was out and about. But, I did have an opportunity to witness to someone earlier in the day. God has given me one follow up opportunity with another person today as well.

Katie had a good ladies meeting last night. The first Monday of every month Katie has the ladies over for a Bible study and a cup of tea. Three ladies and 3 girls came! That has been a good ministry which the ladies look forward to.

Car update: It is running better. The mechanic thinks he now knows what to do. Lord willing, next week it will get remedied. Thanks for praying.

"Murder"

06/09/2015 12:36

It makes for an interesting subject title. And it made for an interesting message this morning. I preached my first ever message on murder this morning as I preached on "A Killer's Heart" from Matthew 5:21-26.

It is a beautiful day. God has given us a gorgeous end to the  summer. It is almost good enough to make us forget that we really didn't get a summer this year. I will enjoy that as I travel to Livingston this afternoon to fill the pulpit for a friend of mine. We are having a 2:30 service there.

Thanks for your prayers for our ministry. We had 5 HBC kids with us on Thursday and two other ones back today. So, praise God, they are still coming. Please keep praying for them.

Just for fun: Scotland has some interesting caterpillars. Here is a moth caterpillar that has two sets of fake eyes. He is about 3 inches long and over a half an inch thick. We almost stepped on him as we were walking this week.
